This mechanism was originally published on p170 of the April, 1972, MM and was designed by Pat Briggs, although I rather suspect that the article and photographs came from Bert Love. The article is entitled "A Nuremburg Clock".
The main feature of the design is a foliot/verge escapement of Pat's original design. In keeping with clocks of the period, he equipped it with only the hour hand, using two 19:1 stages to closely approximate the 360:1 step down required.
On display at meetings and exhibitions, this quirk prompted much discussion. A member asked me at one point whether it would be difficult to install a minute hand as well. My response was that it would be a trivial matter to do so. The clock you see in the lower set of photos is the result.
It was relatively easy to modify the mechanism to incorporate a full set of motion work. I originally made it as a drop in module in case I ever wanted to revert to Pat's original design. The consequent alterations to the going train were also relatively simple.
In response to inquiries about the details of this small hack, I stripped the mechanism and photographed the process of reassembly. You will find the whole shooting score
